Open Heel Design Improves Surgical Compression Stockings

Surgical compression stockings play an important role in preventing deep vein thrombosis in at-risk patients.

Unfortunately, conventional surgical compression stockings’ inherent pressure can exacerbate or even help create the onset of conditions such as heel pressure ulcers. Patients at risk for heel ulcers can benefit from more specialized versions, like HeelSafeTM DVT Hose.

When prescribed and used properly, HeelSafe provides the same benefits as other surgical compression stockings:

• Improved blood flow
• Increased blood flow velocity
• Reduced risk of venous wall dilation and intimal tear
• Possible reductions in coagulability

Unlike standard compression stockings, HeelSafe also helps to prevent and treat heel ulcers via a unique open-heel design not found in other models. This type of “window” design decreases pressure on the heel and Achilles tendon by removing 18-20 mmHg pressure on the skin capillaries, and provides an easy way to see and palpate the heel to prevent heel pressure sores.

Advanced stockings like HeelSafe offer additional benefits such as comfortable super-stretch CoolMax® material and anti-microbial moisture-wicking yarn to keep the skin dry and cool. Patient compliance is greatly enhanced by the new yarn’s ease of donning and removal.
